Dramatic Combat Training
Dramatic combat training is a fundamental skill for any performer that can help you build confidence in moments of violence on both stage and screen.
I offer a range of different courses to suit all skill levels. From total beginners to skilled fighters, there will be a course suited for you.
All courses are accredited with the British Academy of Dramatic Combat (which looks great on any performers CV!). This accreditation is valid for four years from the date of completion.

Current Courses
-

Standard Level: Unarmed & Single Sword - March
On this course will learn the fundamentals of safe and effective dramatic combat involving both swordplay and unarmed fighting. You’ll work on developing the tools an actor will need to keep themselves and a partner safe during moments of violence. This course will teach you how to blend text and violence, culminating in a fight scene performance.
This course is suitable for people with no previous stage combat experience or prior British Academy of Dramatic Combat (BADC) qualifications. Upon successful completion you will gain a standard level certification with the BADC.
-

Further Weapons: Knife - May
This further weapons level course will explore the close quarters and claustrophobic world of knife fighting. Exploring martial techniques, you’ll look at how the knife can be used to disable, disarm and debilitate your opponent.
With a focus on this brutal weapon system, you’ll learn how to keep yourself and a partner safe in a much tighter and specific space.
This course is suitable for anyone who has achieved their standard level certificate with the BADC (or other organisation equivalent).
Testimonials
-
His ability to explain everything in a way that made it feel straightforward, while creating an environment where it was okay to get things wrong is a true skill. He walked the line perfectly between being a professional and someone who could have a laugh with the group. Making everyone feel included and welcomed is also no easy feat.

As an autistic individual, I really appreciate his patience and ability to reiterate when I haven’t understood the instruction. Russell helps anyone catch up with a kindness and professionalism that is so important in this kind of environment.
Advanced Level Student
-
He has an approachability that makes students feel comfortable and confident under his guidance. His patience and ability to articulate instruction and direction are so valuable for learning new choreography with large and dangerous weapons

I have every intention of doing more with BADC and that is pretty much single-handedly because of you. This has been the best thing I've done in a while and I already feel like I want to start putting these skills to use.
